The issues we encountered during the second round of the winter series were only half the battle it seems, and fixing these issues and considering the weekend an off-day only diverted our attention away from the actual issue - my crusty engine.
A fantastic first lap in the pre-final saved me from an embarassing result

Qualifying 17th was crushing enough, but setting the 19th and 13th fastest laps in the pre-final and final was just depressing. On the positive, I finished 11th and 9th both times with a string of faster karts nose to bumper behind me, which was a testament to my ability to carve through the guys in front in the first lap chaos and then ruin the race of everyone immediately behind me by making my kart nice and fat for 20 laps!
