I was outside a place I sometimes (read: never, but have once or twice) go in whilst waiting for a bus with someone and I saw someone I hadn't seen in years right on the other side of the glass and she saw me at the same time. Now... what do you do... do you talk knowing they can't hear you? Mouth silently? Ignore them?

argh!I wasn't sure... at first I was like "shit, look away, look away!" because I didn't want to go inside the place to say hello, and likewise, I didn't want to look at them, wave and sit facing the other way in a blatant effort to avoid them so I went to quickly look at the floor when I noticed them make eye contact with me and react, so I done a kind of confused face like "oh, erm is that, wait a minute... is that? Oh yes, yes it is you!" kind of face, and then walked towards the glass as if I was going to just like walk through the glass to talk to them. I got the glass and stood there like a cunt and decided to POINT at the person, as if the prolonged eye contact and mutual mouthing of random words wasn't enough to indicate I had seen them.

As I gestured to indicate I would come in and say hello, I noticed the girl sit up at the table she was sitting at in a way that would indicate she was about to get up, so I stopped walking off and came back - as I done this, she sat back down so I was like O_o do I go to come back inside now!? I SIMPLY DO NOT UNDERSTAND.

Anyway, she came out, I met her, we spoke, we touched, we left.

But yeah, what do you do in this situation? It's like... you can look away and hope they don't notice, but then if they do you look like a rude prick, you can talk through the glass knowing they cannot hear you, and then risk them try and talk back, and then you don't understand them so you have like NO IDEA what to respond, so do you pretend you understand and just say like "I'm good thanks, how are you" assuming they said "how are you" even though in reality they probably didn't actually say that at all? You have to say something though because if you make eye contact and storm in to say "hi" they are probably going to think you're going to attack them? I would be like "oh crap -_-" if I saw someone through the window and they instantly turned towards the door and stormed in after making eye contact and not saying anything...

Assuming the initial "hello" goes well, who should come to who? Do you go in to them, or do they come out to you? Do you meet half way? How are you supposed to organise such a complex event with no means of communication other than undefined hand gestures!?

IT'S ALL TOO MUCH.
