I've met far too many people that have no interesting hobbies, interests, or successes in their lives and in a sign of admission of their shallow existence decide to jump on the band-wagon of obsessive musical knowledge. This isn't the part which annoys me; what really irritates me is how these people then thrust their knowledge at you, often unprovoked, and deliver their bigoted mouthwords with a sense of arrogance and pomposity that rivals presidents and professional wrestlers.
I understand that some people aren't physically able to compete athletically, and some people simply lack personality and charisma as well; these people often turn to the acquisition of knowledge in an effort to boost their self-worth - an expert in a field such as medicine, law, or engineering has proven they have the motivation, determination and mental capacity to develop a supreme understanding of their field over many years, and therefore deserve respect - they have ACHIEVED something, whereas people that sit around reading Q, NME and Kerrang Magazine and then regurgitate these paperwords do NOT. I think what these people fail to understand, is that ANYBODY could bring their own musical knowledge up to their level in a matter of weeks should they desire, but nobody actually gives enough of a shit to do so - this is what makes it all so hilarious. Not only do they seem to think people care about what they have to say, but they also seem to believe other people don't have the ability to memorise what they read in magazines as they can, PLUS, and this is the worst one, they think they are "musically gifted" because they can memorise facts that happen to be on the topic of music. Is that not one of the most retarded things EVER!? Yes. Yes it is.So why do these people bum music so hard? Because they are empty, and have nothing else to cling to, so they clutch at what is the most widely embraced topic of at least mediocre interest, in other words, these mediocre people are grabbing onto a mediocre topic to try and make themselves seem extraordinary - I smell FAIL! |
